hi everyone dont know if this would be of interest to anyone but i went to spain oct 2011 and while i was there i drove down to Gibralter to have a look around the airfield because thats where my dad served with 22 sqdn s.a.a.f (he was R.a.f.v.r as mentioned in a previous post)but nothing remained it had been knocked down for the new expansion for the civil airlines. And the control tower is new the old one is gone as well (has anyone got photos of the old control tower)but at least the R.A.F still operate the tower.so i went over to the graveyard to see the war graves quite a solem place when you know the history of the airfield. But the biggest dissapointment was the fact that there was no mention of the R.A.f and the S.A.A.F ever being there between 1939 and 1945,but there was a plaque that mentioned the moors invasion in 711 and a plaque that comemorated the royal Gibralter regiment. But if you guys can get to Gibralter its still worth a visit just to see where 22 sqdn s.a.a.f where based.

Sorry to disappoint you Russell, but the RAF do not operate the Tower, Serco Aerospace runs the Tower on behalf of the MOD.

hi guys thanks for the feedback to my post (paul and balerit) it was interesting what you said about serco aerospace operating the tower i just assumed it was R.A.F because of the sign on the tower and the fact im sure i saw some guys wearing uniform but i was only there for a couple of hours but you were obviously there a long time paul and able to find out a lot more than me.I did take a few pics and will post them on here when my computer expert shows me how (my daughter).but if any body should have a photo of the old control tower would love to see it i will also put photos of the old camp that i had off an old guy who was there the same time as my dad (he was also a wop/ag).thats all for now thanks guys.

Russell, this is the best that I could get for WWII (1940). The oldest Tower shots I have are of the 1960's.
