hi there...

been working on a 140% accurate repaint for the payware alphasim spammy... and i've finally finished nit-picking the details on the scheme, with one or two more edits to go..... (minor issues).... there may be a plethora of saaf spammys released on the flightsim world..

i view it only fair as we were the longest and largest operators of the type... that there should be a fitting tribute to the SAAFs spammys..

there is a bit of history in the numbers i decided to do.... (save a special request from another forum)... lets see if anyone can figure out what it is...

and i will probly do one or two more (certainly when i find my dad's logbook, i will add the a/c he went solo in)

if anyone here would like a personal number, please dont hesitate to ask.... i would be happy to oblige.

I'm not too clued up on Harvard history, but my guess would be, the Bumble Bees or whatever they were called before the Silver Falcons, would be there?

An excellent paint job, one small fault on the aircraft.

All these aircraft fall into the serial number block 7001 - 7633, these are all Mk IIa or Mk III obtained during WWII era.

65 aircraft 7634 - 7698 obtained from USA in 1950's
30 aircraft 7699 - 7728 obtained from USA 1953, all of these are T-6G aircraft

Only the T-6G type aircraft had propellor spinners which were removed by the 1960's.

7176 and 7385 were painted overall dayglo and with two other harvards were part of the CFS aerobatic team in 1960

7176 and 7152 did air displays during WWII togather.

yup... correct...

i am aware of the spinner issue.. as there is a more accurate spammy there with no spinner, and the short exhaust.. i want to use that.. but it has the radio mast in front of the cockpit which not so accurate for the era of spammy i want to model.

i am currently learning stuff about alphachannels in the textures, as it possible in some cases to 'edit' out the unwanted bits....

if i can remove the mast, then there will be correct spammys....

They look very nice though :smt023 , see quite a few Harvards over here, but not in SAAF colours. the sound of their engines though is what counts, that growl sounds beautiful.

Out does a Spitfire or any Merlin engined aircraft any day

I remember attending an air show out at Wigram Air Force Base down in Christchurch and was very surprised to see a former SAAF Harvard flying. Can't remember the serial but it was def. ex SAAF complete with Springbok and Castle.
