Don't know if this has been mentioned but A-model released a new Bo-105 CBS kit in 1/72!

Got my new GWH FW-189 (48th scale) in the post today. Man, what a gorgeous little kit with some of the finest surface detail I've seen for many moons. Also got to view another guy's 32nd scale Meng Me163 - again, the rivetting is incredible. These are good times...

According to this guy its due out around christmas...clever timing :D also a pic of the boxart.

The new Kittyhawk !/48 Mig-25 is being torn apart by the experts, but not knowing much about the aircraft myself it looks like a stunning kit!
Look at the detail on the cockpit sidewalls I think its outstanding.
If I had the space I would love to build one of these.
Sprue shots and instructions here: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/ind ... 69128&st=0

And the 21 page long expert opinions here :http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=261992

The new 1/48 Kinetic Alpha Jet seems to have a lot of "fit" problems if you follow this build: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/ind ... pic=268477

For the 1/72 fans, there is a very nice looking new MPM 1/72nd Potez-Air-Fouga CM.170R Magister/Tzukit and CM.175 Zéphyr kits on the way. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/ind ... pic=269090

And here is some nice new stuff in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 from MPM:

Hhmmm...

I wonder if these inaccuracies and poor-fit problems is as consequence of the fast and varied releases.

No, I reckon its a matter of short memories i.e. it's so good now, these folks who rip every kit apart can't cast their minds back to 2000 when many of these releases were not even on the wish list (that's how unlikely some were deemed to be). These guys should stop moaning and get cracking on building a couple of kits. :?

OR...

come to terms with the fact they've been spoiled by companies like Hasegawa or Tamiya producing excellent kits with good fit and accuracy (for the most part).

And that in this day and age, many of the 'experts' are commenting from the comforting depths of their study chairs wielding the might of Google images and with the advent of the vast amounts of reference material now available are no longer happy with the simple fact that a kit they wish to have produced, is being produced. Many a keyboard being slain in their obsessive compulsive rivet counting rants, that this curve isn't correct or that line shouldn't be there. I havent been building as long as a few our distinguished builders, but I can recall the joy of simply finding a kit of an aircraft I fancied in the scale that I prefer. Building the kits with very little reference other than what the instructions or the few books I had. I think a lot of these guys have forgotten what the hobby is supposed to be about (I too lost sight of it a while ago).

I will admit to becoming a purist when it comes to certain aircraft (coughSpitfire/Dakcough).... but I am always thankful that we have kits to build.

This topic has come up again? Sigh.

Personally I believe that without the hardcore critics, improvement would be impossible. Someone has to point out all the flaws, no matter how small. The most critical reviews of kits are usually the least useful to the builders like us, but they are useful to those who produce kits. There are the rivet-counters that get their kicks out of it, both out of "correcting" the kit as they build, and out of writing scathing reviews. However, for us, those reviews are of little direct use. Don't take things at face value, do your research. Those reviews on their own are useless, but they are a resource. Look at a few of them, compare the information they give, compare this to what you want out of your build. In short, make up your own damn mind.

Accuracy aside for me what's interesting is that the model manufacturer's are following one of two market strategies....

Lets call it strategy A & B

Strategy A
Sell kits to be built.

Strategy B
Sell kits, to sell kits.

Its like the new generation manufacturers have realised that all they have to do is produce kits that look good on the sprue's. They know that the 'kit purchase to completed model ratio' is very low.

I not saying its a good or bad thing just interesting to observe.

So it would seem like we're going to get a new Ventura boxing next year.

RAF 'Ventura' out of Revell. It was only a matter of time, given the break down of the fuselage sprues!

I see Berna decals has released a 1/48 decal sheet for
Mirage IIIR and RD, maybe they know of a new kit due soon?

4 manufacturers are supposed to have 1/48 Mirage IIIE kits "in the works", High Planes, Musthave, Pilot Replicas and another but so far there is nothing to show for them.

I hope so.

And Airfix announced a 24th scale Typhoon (the WWII version) coming in 2014. How's that for something. Finally my Mozzie can get a friend.
