'any modeler is his own worst critic', however having others judge you is another kettle of fish!
Good point about the novice catergory....I will ensure that a novice/beginner category will be distinguished from the more seasoned builders. The aim of the contest is to put kits on the table, to attract the kids away from the Xbox's/PS3's, etc and to talk modelling. Consider a novice category included. Enter, you will never know how you will do! We all would love to see your kits. Remember a kit swop and sell will also be happening the same time, as last years swop went (I bought 58 kits, however only 3 if the wife asks) down extremely well, huge bargains!!!!
Modellers greetings!

If I remember correctly the SAAF Museum model contest used to break down the categories as follows:

skill level: novice/ skilled
Age: Junior/ Senior
Category: Aircraft/ Vehicles/ Dioramas/ Ships/ other
SAAF: SAAF/ Non-SAAF
Scale

The Museum contest was a lot of fun because it brought out a wide range of models and the judging wasn't too critical. IPMS judging looks strictly technical aspects, where as the museum judging was a bit more relaxed in the sense it looks at the over all merits of a subject.

As event it was something that was sorely missing from the modeling calender.

One aspect modeling clubs in SA don't focus on is the promotion of open competition with a view for promoting the hobby. The SAAF Museum contest used to fill this gap nicely, in the sense that everyone was welcome regardless of skill level, age, club membership.
