The two M-2 version Oryx were modified for Artic missions.

1249 crashed in 2004, whilst 1238 was converted to M-1 status in 2009.

The Antarctic Oryx's were 1238 and 1249.

So far Oryx 1238 has worn five paint schemes in SAAF service.

They were as follows:

Standard factory delivery scheme ( Old Dark Earth/ Olive Drab)

Naval Dark Sea Grey scheme

Antarctic Red and White scheme

Revised SAAF camouflage pattern scheme ( Old Dark Earth / Olive Drab)

Revised /resprayed after a service update ( New lead free Dark Earth / Olive Drab paint that is much darker)

Starlite Helicopters who operated Puma helicopters had a similar pattern but in different shades of colour being Blue and Yellow.
I have seen photos wherein four Puma's were flying in formation and in the Blue and Yellow Barber pole scheme.

I'm not a fan of the new paint scheme, I think it is too dark for SA conditions.
