it a commercial vessel or a naval ship." He also stressed the sufficient capability of the personnel of shipyards in the
Northwest of Russia, saying it allowed the USC to organize the transfer of ‘competences’ between the various
constituent elements of the corporation.

Given the slippages of so many naval projects, I don't see this one keeping to the 2019 timeline either.

What other Russian shipyards are capable of building aircraft / helicopter carriers?

I was under the impression they abandoned catapult in favour of ski jump. Not only Russia, but India and China. I also thought that the nwe carriers have striking similarity. Also despite delays, no one acknowledges the feat of ins carrier conversion. ...... But I admit I have zero knowledge on this. But I believe all three countries mentioned are ..... Well working together

I love navy stuff more than anything. This is what I mean by similarities and help. It's going off topic and don't know where to put it but look at vikramyidta and vikrant, ktsonov and lioning. Also Chinese are openly saying http://app.scmp.com/scmp/mobile/index.h ... 39/desktop the weapons systems alone should show co operation, not to mention the similar tonnage. Romeo would be amazing in telling me if I'm accurate here as he served on large ships. I have also been trying to book a vacation on Kiev carrier hotel as rumours were that China was also modeernising her like Russia did to India's purchase. I have been trying to follow these carriers as close as possible and what the countries are doing. India and Russia are way more open. But I don't see catapult in this series of builds but the countries have mentioned even more carries as they expand their global grip. Curious about Brazil still and what they want. I think being in south lame rica they should focus more on air and land....another discussion. What I mean is, I can't be the only one here that thinks like this, surely we can all see the countries helping each other in carrier builds.

This can be moved but I just wanted to expand what I said according to that article. Sorry if I have spelled the ships wrong, I'm going from memory

Additionally, the carrier will use the STOBAR (Short TakeOff But Arrested Recovery) configuration to launch and recover fixed wing aircraft. Going into the future, electromagnetic catapults could possibly be added to the angled-deck. Unknown “upgrades” were also spoken of in the press conference held by the Chinese government. This will be China’s first domestically-produced carrier.

\:D/ I see there is interest in this from you. What I find most interesting is http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/indi ... 392647.cms and the statement that ins vikramyita will be undergoing refit in September 2016 from this shipyard. The tonnage is similar, design looks to me Similar but that may just be engineering restrictions. I don't know. I do see the aircraft being the same if reports are accurate and I also see the Russian conversion being further converted to be more like this one if the reports of septembers refit to be accurate.

Brazil is all over the map when it comes to reports. They would build one with another countries help, but also there were or are reports dcns will build it. I believe dcns is refitting Brazil
S carrier for an estimated further life use of 50 years. These are interisting times with all these builds coming up.

Clearly not the size of USA carriers, but do the need to be? If this carrier carriers 17 fighters, let's say, how many are operationally available. All? I'm not sure and can't really find a conclusive answer. Surely not all can be operational at all the time...I may be wrong

I also forgot to mention but uk has also abandoned catapult system since it is carriers now we cannot forget the uk. Edit, I deleted a question earlier and left the wrong thing. Dcns upgrading for 15 years further, question is why the much larger Nimitz only lasts 50. I deleted that and left the wrong number. But that also then brings the ford class to this discussion further edit, I realize I got carried away. I have been looking into these builds and just got so happy with this thread. I really only originally wanted to say that catapult system was no longer a need according to what I've read and also wanted to say that seevmash although a sub builder did dry dock and build the ins carrier. Something many have kept saying wasn't possible without Crimea. These builds do excite me though very much

I am just going to spit it out, this is my opinion on the builds. As Russia and China, Brazil, India and yes to a degree us sart influencing the infrastructure builds and projects in developing nations, Africa, Middle East, silk roads and Latin America, these small carriers might be needed by Russia and China and India I case of civil instability. Much like the NATO doctrine that keeps 11 carier groups. These larger vesicles not only allow a force projection on a foreign third worl country, but also allow for humanitarian aid due to the size. I truly don't believe these vessels being build by Russia India or China to be meant to go against any developed country. It is a joint initiative just like aisian infrastructure investment bank and new development back. These are tools to protect interisting. It's also why I advocate highly for the lead for a mistral type for us if Zuma keeps going the route he is going. Bottom line, this is really what I wanted to say all along.
