SAAF to receive new insignia
Date: 10 May 2001
South African Air Force chief Lt Gen Roelf Beukes yesterday told a briefing that the service would be adopting new rank insignia towards the end of the year. At present the SAAF wear insignia is a hybrid between the British and American rank structure.
The new insignia, in part forced by the changing of the national Coat of Arms from a design first adopted in 1910, will be a distinctive new design, still to be approved by higher authorities, and based on stripes (gold) and chevrons (blue) with the national coat of arms in variation.
