Hercules upgrade problems
Date: 29 June 2001
The Afrikaans daily, Die Burger, reports that the delivery of the first C-130 Hercules upgraded by Marshall Aerospace is already seven months behind schedule due to contractual problems.
The first aircraft was delivered to Marshall Aerospace in 1996. Apparently, there is a dispute about the functionality of some of the systems which the SAAF regard as not working according to the contract. The original delivery date of October 2000 was delayed to January 2001, but it still has not yet been delivered. If the disagreement cannot be settled amicably, then a court case is a distint possibility. If that happens, then the aircraft may have to be delivered to SA by ship.
