Two years, sleepless nights, countless hours in the air and on the ground, and now the chapter has finally closed. Instructors Course 01/23 was more than just a qualification; it was a test of endurance, patience, and growth.

What began as a daunting challenge has now shaped us into a team of newly minted C Cat Instructors. Over the course of this journey, there were many setbacks, steep learning curves, and moments of self-doubt. But in equal measure, there were eventually breakthroughs, camaraderie, and the deep satisfaction of pushing through limits we didn’t know we had.

The course demanded more than flying skills. It demanded discipline, resilience, and the ability to adapt not just as pilots, but as leaders and facilitators. We quickly learned that being an instructor is not about showing what you can do, but about bringing out the best in someone else. That shift in perspective changed the way we fly, the way we think, and the way we approach every sortie.

Now, as we step into the role of instructors, the responsibility becomes real. We will be training not just the next generation of pilots, but the very future of the South African Air Force, the men and women who will one day carry our aviation legacy forward. Every sortie we brief, every mistake we correct, every lesson we share will echo far beyond a single flight; it will shape the future of aviation in South Africa. It’s a privilege that carries weight, but also immense pride. The same way we were guided, corrected, and inspired, we now get to be that steady voice in the cockpit for those who will follow.

Instructors Course 01/23 will always be remembered as more than just a milestone. For us, it is a marker of growth, of shared struggle, and of the friendships forged through “literal blood, sweat and tears.”  To those we will train, we are ready for you. And to Jones…’How do you read me?’ Well, we couldn’t have done it without you.

A chapter closed, a new one begins.
