Air force school relocates
Date: 23 August 2004
Hoedspruit - The South African Air Force's command and control school has been moved from Waterkloof in Pretoria to Hoedspruit in Limpopo.
The Hoedspruit air base, which used to be a top-secret fighter base, hosted a military ceremony last week to officially welcome the school's commander Colonel Octavio Mcetywa.
The school provides logistical training, as well as training in integrated air traffic control, mission control and communications, and command post functions.
The last courses at the Waterkloof base were completed in November last year, and the school reopened in Hoedspruit in January this year.
Since then, 14 courses have been held, of which seven are currently in progress.
Up to 70 students are trained at a time.
The air force's 19 Squadron, equipped with Alouette III and Oryx helicopters, has also moved to Hoedspruit from Makhado.
