Pilatus Astra breaks 100 000 barrier

Members of AFB Langebaanweg proudly celebrated 100 000 flying hours on the training fleet of Pilatus Astra PC7 MkII aircraft on Thursday 30 March 2006. Capt William 'Mayhem' Norval, Central Flying School solo display pilot, entertained the invited guests to a superb sequence of precision aerobatics in aircraft 2001 - the first of the type to be accepted into service at Langebaanweg on 17 October 1994.

Capt Johan Fouché and CO Frans Phokela enjoyed the privilege of breaking through the 100 000 flying hours at 10h45 on Monday 27 March 2006 - forty minutes into a two hour training flight with aircraft 2055.

Present as guests of Col Graham Barr, Commanding Officer Central Flying School, were Mr. Luigi Rossi (Programme Manager Inter Technic and Pilatus Aircraft SA), Mr. Dirk Fouché (Programme Manager Armscor), Brig General S.D. Mashobane (Director Education, Training and Development), Col Chris Heyman (SSO ETD Log Support), Lt Col Manie Schönkin (SO Flight Training) and Lt Col Ian Brunette (Chief Flying Instructor CFS)
