SA Air Force / Chilean Air Force Declaration of Intent

The South African Air Force (SAAF) and the Chilean Air Force signed a Declaration of Intent in Pretoria on 29 September 2006 to intensify the long-standing bilateral relationship between the two Air Forces.

The agreement which was signed by the Chief of the SAAF, Lt Gen Carlo Gagiano and his Chilean counterpart General del Aire Osvaldo Sarabia Vilches binds the two Air Forces into a bilateral agreement on air force cooperation following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of South Africa (Department of Defence) and the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Chile.

The two Air Force Chiefs further agreed to intensify a cordial bilateral relationship between them with specific emphasis on the following areas of air force to air force cooperation :

a. The reciprocal exchange of air force pilots, instructors and other specialists.
b. The reciprocal exchange of information on doctrine and operational procedures.
c. The participation in bilateral exercises in the territories of both air forces as advisors or observers.
d. The attendance of training courses in the operational and technical fields at the educational and training institutions of both air forces subject to available vacancies and financial resources.
e. The provision of bilateral support to guest pilots, instructors, students and their dependents by the host air force.
f. Any other related area of air force to air force cooperation as agreed to by the two air forces.
