Unconfirmed reports have been received that a SAAF Agusta A109 helicopter was involved in an incident near Potchefstroom in the North-West province.

The purported accident happened in the afternoon and as no additional information is available, it is not known if there are any injuries, but it is not thought that the aircraft was seriously damaged.

The A109 is a Light Utility Helicopter, used for light passenger and cargo transport, patrolling and utility duties. The helicopter is operated by 17 Squadron near Pretoria and 87 Helicopter Flying School near Bloemfontein. The only other accident to involve this aircraft type occured on 12 May 2009, when it crashed into the Woodstock Dam in the Drakensburg mountains, killing all three crew.

We were unable to get confirmation from the SAAF at the time of publishing.
