Description:

Designation used for the South African produced M'pala I. A D.H.9 with a strengthened forward fuselage structure, improved landing gear, aileron controls, fuel system and Handley Page leading-edge slots.

SAAF serial 151 (ex DH4 204),and 152 (ex DH4 208).

Armament consisted of one fixed forward-firing 0.303-in (7.7mm) Vickers machine-gun and one or two .303-in (7.7mm) Lewis guns on Scarff ring in aft cockpit, plus up to 460 lb (209 kg) of bombs.
