7728 | SAAF Museum | 1 OK | 3nm south of Rietvlei Dam, Pretoria | During the process of formatting for an airshow flypast, the aircraft suffered a loss of power and severe vibration. Whilst approaching a field for an emergency landing, the propellor stopped dead at 30ft AGL, suddenly increasing the rate of decent. The port wing then clipped power lines, spinning the aircraft 160 degrees before bouncing hard on the ground. The aircraft stopped on the second bounce, only 30 metres from the power lines, and burst into flames. |
